2026 Goals
Some changes that I'd like to make that seem reasonable, not in any particular order.
Don't buy more games — My Steam backlog is bigger than ever and there's nothing on the horizon that I really want, so hopefully this shouldn't be too hard. Add things to the wishlist sure, but only play what I already have instead of adding the new shinies to my collection.
Read a comic/manga volume a week — I have more than enough unread volumes on my shelves to get through the entire year, even discounting digital ones I have access to. I've never particularly enjoyed them as a medium compared to novels or animation but I would like to at least finish a few series that have incomplete anime adaptations such as Bloom Into You or Blue Spring Ride.
Write a blog post a month — Might as well make use of that Bearblog subscription. My initial thought was to return to writing more than a short paragraph or two at a time about a topic but I remembered a lot of my posts back on LiveJournal were on the shorter side and I don't necessarily want to exclude things like that either. So it's really more about organizing my thoughts better and getting something out into the world again even if only bots will ever read it. Maybe this will end up being an obscure romance anime review blog in the end, who knows?
Build more Gunpla — Another giant physical backlog next to the manga one, I did enjoy the process but rarely found the time for it. I recently had the realization that I could take the time spent idly browsing around the Internet while watching baseball (which I got back into this past season and still enjoy even if the Guardians aren't great) and instead work on models with the game on and split my focus that way.
Start doing weekly meal prep — I don't mind cooking, I just find it a pain to do for me alone and I end up letting ingredients go bad and waste them. Before moving to Boston I didn't have a problem cooking for myself — which I think is related to the amount of counter space available (not much these days) — but I'd like to at least start to get back into making food regularly.
I also have a new bingo board for anime watching next year, finishing all the romance-tagged anime that I dropped partway in. Not an explicit goal, just something I'll have going on for more media consumption.
Am I going to consistently do all of those? Eh, probably not. But they can be a guide to refer to. There's also a good chance I'll get derailed and end up diving into a couple of projects unrelated to any of the above.
